Volunteering at the Library

Volunteering at the Library

We have a number of volunteers in the library supporting and enhancing the work we do. Our most long-standing volunteer position is delivering books as part of the Home Library Service. Many of these volunteers have been with us for years and have built up great relationships with the people they visit.

We also take on young people each summer to support the Summer Reading Challenge. This is a well-supported position that young people often use as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award and has led to on to volunteers becoming members of staff too. It’s great to have young people working alongside us to support and encourage children to sign up to the reading challenge and help with events and activities in the summer.

We also take on volunteers in other capacities from time to time. Recently we have had volunteers running a Code Club for children, assisting with events, supporting local studies and running a Shared Reading Group.

For an informal chat about becoming a volunteer and finding the right role for you, please give us a ring on 0116 305 3627 or drop us a line at marketharboroughlibrary@leics.gov.uk.
