Treasure20

Wendy Scott, the Finds Liaison Officer for Leicestershire, has been busy writing about the most exciting treasure in Leicestershire Museums. This includes not only the Hallaton Treasure at Harborough Museum but also some gold beaker basket ornaments, which you can see in our displays.

These small pieces of gold are much, much older than they look, coming from over 4,000 years ago. Make sure you visit Wendy’s blog to find out about their story, as well as lots of other treasure from Leicestershire.

Amongst the oldest items on display are these beautiful ‘basket ornaments’ found by a metal detectorist in Gilmorton which date to c. 2,500 BC
The ornaments as they are displayed in Harborough Museum

Treasure20 is a celebration of 20 years of the Treasure Act. You can find out about the Portable Antiquities Scheme and Finds Liaison Officers on the PAS website.
