Welcome to the summer, and because it’s July that means it’s also the Festival of Archaeology! To celebrate, we not only have a wonderful event celebrating the festival’s theme of creativity, we are also giving a peak at our progress on the Hallaton Helmet project.
This 3D print of the Hallaton Helmet was produced by Design Futures following scanning of the real helmet in 2022. You can see it on display in Harborough Museum near the Help Desks.
Digital scans of the helmet and cheekpieces can be viewed at www.sketchfab.com/lcc
We are working to bring you an updated display of the Hallaton Helmet and associated material early next year. As part of this we have commissioned two replica Hallaton Helmets to show how it would have looked 2000 years ago before burial.
To inform the process, archaeological illustrator, Debbie Miles, has drawn the various motifs that feature on the helmet – some of those drawings can be seen here.
We can’t wait to show you the finished results!
