We are very pleased to have been working with Harborough District Council to deliver tours of The Symington Building as part of Heritage Open Days.

The theme of Heritage Open Days this year is routes, networks and connections. Tours have focused on the history of R. & W.H. Symington & Co Ltd from its origin in Market Harborough to factories worldwide including in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Genuine objects from the company’s past for visitors to handle help bring history to life, and historic photographs let several people see their family members in different roles at the corset maker. The tour showed visitors the grand Civic Entrance, formerly the main entrance to the factory, and the top floor which was formerly the Cutting Room. These areas are usually inaccessible to the public, so Heritage Open Days is the perfect time to give people a sneak peak.

Keep an eye on our What’s On page, and go to the Visit Harborough website to discover all the things you can do in the district.
